Our team, G.O.A.T, aimed to create an engaging game that offered dynamic and exciting gameplay even on lower-spec computers. Additionally, we focused on crafting witty and humorous settings for the music, atmosphere, and characters to leave a lasting impression on players.
Role:
Producer & Director
Duration:
16 weeks
Challenges
Game Identity: Designed the concept and visuals for Re:Food Truck to reflect its unique art and music style, while providing a fresh and engaging gameplay experience centered around the food truck theme.
User Experience: Developed an intuitive game logic that allows players to enjoy the game using only a mouse, ensuring a smooth and accessible experience.
Reduced Development Load: To accommodate the 15-week development timeline and minimize interference with team members' studies, we focused on creating reusable logic to streamline the development process.
My Approach
Discovery Phase
Project Clarification: To ensure that all team members are aligned despite having different ideas for the game, I completed and distributed the Game Design Document.
Scope Adjustment: Created and shared weekly and monthly schedules with each department to ensure that development goals could be achieved without interfering with the team members' academic commitments.
Design and Development
Graphic Design: Directed the creation of a visually appealing design that not only embodies the original intention of a witty and humorous artistic vision but also allows players to easily navigate game objectives and clear methods.
Game Engine: Developed a Singleton pattern OpenGL game engine, which our team was familiar with, to facilitate rapid development for both the prototype and the main game.
Sound Design: Composed original music that captures the comical events occurring in the kitchen, reminiscent of the exaggerated sound effects from Tom and Jerry, and integrated it into the game.
Gameplay: Designed the gameplay to keep players engaged by requiring them to complete various orders within a short 60-second time limit, ensuring there is no room for boredom.
Testing and Iteration
User Feedback: Created a survey in DOCX format and conducted playtesting with the families, friends, or acquaintances of each development team member. Based on their feedback, we improved the game's design and functionality.
Performance Optimization: Ensured the program’s performance is optimized for fast loading times, responsiveness across devices, and seamless user interaction.
Results
This program, completed within a short timeframe alongside continuous development, was successfully launched as an executable version, receiving positive feedback from peers and professors.
Notably, it succeeded in achieving its original goal of being a fun and engaging experience, perfectly aligning with the initial vision.
Future Plans
Continuous Enhancement: Plan regular updates to introduce new stages, cooking techniques, and additional sound effects that match the atmosphere, along with interactive features to further enrich the player experience.
Game Optimization: While most bugs have been resolved, there are still some issues with memory management, which we plan to address to improve overall performance.
Conclusion
The successful completion of this project highlights my ability to plan strategically, implement cutting-edge design principles, and develop innovative solutions.
By surpassing initial expectations, it showcases a commitment to delivering high-performance results in a challenging and competitive environment.
This accomplishment not only underscores technical proficiency but also reinforces my capacity to drive impactful outcomes, making it a valuable addition.
